If you yourself are having a baby or if you know a teacher who is, this is a great book to read to a primary class. I read this book to my 2nd grade class eight years ago when I was pregnant with my son. Ah, memories.
The actual story isn’t too exciting, but it does a great job of getting the message across of different things that may happen when your teacher is expecting a baby. It helps kids understand that it’s normal for teachers to go on maternity leave. And, many times the teacher will come back before the school year ends.
As it gets closer to your due date, you can have your class do some of the different activities mentioned in the book, like guessing the baby’s name, etc. It also has some good vocabulary that the kids may not have heard before, like “offspring”.
Some libraries have this book. It’s also available through third-party amazon sellers. In any case, I think you’ll find Our Teacher’s Having a Baby by Eve Bunting a great read aloud. Congratulations to the expecting mom!
