Wow! Once again, I am recommending a book that was illustrated by my new favorite children’s book author and illustrator, Peter H. Reynolds. This time it’s The Museum, which was written by Susan Verde. Reynolds and Verde partnered to create this unique story.
The main character visits an art museum and shares her feelings as she views different pieces of art. You and your students may even recognize some of the art represented in the story (The Scream and Starry Night are two notable references).
It’s really interesting to watch the girl experience different emotions as she moves from art that makes her feel lonely to art that makes her feel giddy, etc.
Here are just some of the great vocabulary words in the story:
stifle
analyze
elation
rythym
giddy
Also, here’s one comprehension question you can ask during or after reading the story:
“Can you pretend you’re the girl making silly faces at the sculpture? What would that look like?”
I highly recommend this heartwarming book for both kids and adults. It’ll make you want to schedule a visit to your nearest art museum asap. Until that visit, maybe look around the art displayed in your home and see how it makes you feel.

Looks really interesting….I love museums, interesting to focus on the emotions rather than the objects themselves.
